At Congregation B’nai Tikvah, we believe that a kind and vibrant Jewish community deepens and restores our sense of purpose and connection to the world.

We are dedicated to learning, music-infused prayer, personal relationships and a commitment to social justice, and welcome all who are looking to explore the many innovative paths to meaning that Judaism has to offer.

–CBT Mission Statement

Interfaith

Welcoming and including interfaith families has been part of the fabric of CBT since the day we were founded. Our founding rabbi, Raphael Asher, was the first rabbi to sit on the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County, and interfaith families are integral to every part of our shul community. We engage regularly in dialogue and social action with our neighboring faith communities, learning from their wisdom and traditions and offering the light of our own. We invite you and your family to explore the kind and loving Jewish home you will find with us.

LGBTQ

Our tradition teaches that human beings were created in the image of God, regardless of what you look like or who you love. We wholeheartedly embrace this teaching at CBT, where LGBTQ families are invited to participate in all aspects of our community life. We celebrate the diversity of expression that every member brings, understanding that the spark of God lives and shines within each and every one of us. Our passionate social justice warriors have committed themselves to fighting for justice and equality for all people, including our LGBTQ brothers and sisters. We welcome you to add your voice to the beautiful tapestry of our community mosaic.

Social Justice

While CBT welcomes anyone who wants to help us define and grow our Jewish Community, we believe that that’s not sufficient and we are committed to the pursuit of Social Justice beyond the walls of our shul. Learn about our recent social action efforts as a community and how you can get more involved.
