David Satter is a leading commentator on Russia and the former Soviet Union. He is the author of five books on Russia and the creator of a documentary film on the fall of the U.S.S.R. His most recent book, Never Speak to Strangers and Other Writing from Russia and the Soviet Union (ibidem-Verlag/Columbia University Press, 2020), is a collection of more than 40 years of journalism from Russia. Satter studied at the University of Chicago and Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He has held fellowships at the Hudson Institute, the Foreign Policy Institute at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), the Hoover Institution, the Foreign Policy Research Institute in Philadelphia and the Henry Jackson Society in London. David Satter continues to write about Russia for the editorial page of The Wall Street Journal. His articles and op-ed pieces have also appeared in the Los Angeles Times, The National Interest, National Review, CNN.com, The Daily Beast, National Review Online, The New Republic, The New York Sun, The New York Review of Books, Reader’s Digest and The Washington Times.
