Rules

For submissions to be considered, all submissions must conform to the following rules:

• All entries should be written in Times New Roman, size 12 font, double spaced, and should not exceed three pages.
• All entries should be named “[First and Last Name], [Cohort Location], [Category].”
• Please give your submission a title.
• Non-fiction pieces must have citations for all sources used. Please use parenthetical citations in text (Author’s Last Name, Year of Publication) and cite author, title of work, and year of publication in your bibliography. Any citation style (MLA, Chicago, etc.) is acceptable. Bibliographies do not factor into the 3-page maximum.
• All submissions must be submitted on the website in the appropriate category.
• All submissions are due by Friday, April 12, 2024, at 4 PM in your time zone.
• You may submit entries in up to two categories.

Writing Prompts:

Fiction

Write a dialogue between two figures you studied this year. What would
these figures have to say to each other? What could they learn from one another?

Non-fiction

Compare and contrast two leaders you studied this year. Who do you
think had a greater impact on Jewish history? Why?

Poetry

Write a poem about an idea, leader, or historical event that you have studied so
far in the Millstone Scholars Program.

Journalism

Pretend you are a journalist during a period that you studied in
class. Write a news article about a historical event you covered in a Millstone Scholars
class. Write the article as if you were reporting it as a current event.
