Anne of Green Gables is a story of imagination, belonging, and the surprising ways a family can be formed. L.M. Montgomery’s beloved novel follows Anne Shirley, a talkative and fiercely imaginative orphan who is accidentally sent to live with Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert on their farm. The Cuthberts had expected a boy to help with the work, but Anne’s wit, temper, mistakes, and longing for love gradually transform life at Green Gables. In this course, students will discuss a story that asks tender and enduring questions: What does it mean to belong? How can imagination help us see ordinary life more vividly? And how do love, discipline, and forgiveness help a child grow into herself?
