What is statesmanship, and how do statesmen lead successfully in times of war? This course will consider competing conceptions of statesmanship, as articulated in the Hebrew Bible, Greek philosophical tradition, and contemporary political science. As statesmanship is a practical art as much as theoretical concern, we will also consider historical case studies of great statesmen, including King David, Pericles, Fabius, and Ben-Gurion.
